How to use this calculator
1. Choose fence style
Pick single sided, with battens on one face, or hit and miss with battens on both faces offset to cover the gaps.
2. Enter your dimensions
Give the total run length, pick a height, and add any corners so the extra posts are counted.
3. Set the gap and post spacing
Gaps are typically 25 to 50mm. Post spacing is 1.8m as standard, 2.4m for economy or 1.5m for extra sturdy.
4. Choose vertical supports
Leave supports on for the uprights between the posts that the battens fix to. Two per bay, or three above 1.5m.
5. Read off your quantities
Battens, posts and postcrete update as you type, alongside a scale drawing of the run and a plan detail of one bay.
